How do voice-to-text models handle homophones? Ans: They use deep learning context (duh) and statistical language models. There's also a buffer between the word and the translated output that aids in not only using the $[0, \ldots, n-1]$ prior words to ascertain the $n$th word, but also the $n+1$th word as well. Having a buffer allows for the first bit of the $n+1$th word to be ingested, which allows for better contextual understanding. I wonder how this works with languages that are syntactically dissimilar to English, having "reversed" sentence structure. Surely that's a part of why live translation (a different problem tbf) is so hard.
Why do restrooms in the EU have the sign "WC"? Ans: It stands for water closet, an archaic term for a private area with running water to clean oneself.
